About

Viola Desmond (July 6, 1914-February 7, 1965) was an Afro-Canadian (specifically Black Nova Scotian) activist, community leader and entrepreneur who resisted racial segregation and racial discrimination when she refused to sit in the black-only section while trying to see a movie at the Roseland Theatre in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
